Biography

Dr. Ahsan H. Mansur is Founder and Executive Director of the Policy Research Institute of Bangladesh. He began his career as a Lecturer in Economics at Dhaka University in 1976 before completing a PhD in Economics at the University of Western Ontario in 1982. He joined the International Monetary Fund under its Economist Program in 1981 and worked across the Middle East, Asia, Africa and Central America, serving in the Fiscal Affairs and Policy Review and Development departments, as IMF Senior Resident Representative to Pakistan and as Fiscal Advisor to Bangladesh's Minister of Finance, where he helped introduce Value Added Tax in 1991. He later led the IMF's Gulf Cooperation Council division as Mission Chief for Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and Oman, and has published widely on fiscal and capital-market policy.
